Kay Cowperthwait is a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where she earned a B.A. in American Studies in 1991. Kay was also a member of the varsity women's ice hockey and lacrosse teams for four years. She captained both teams in her four years and was named an E.C.A.C. Ice Hockey All-Star as a senior. After graduation, Kay moved to California where she coached the Stanford University Women's Lacrosse Club team for two years before being named the first coach of the Varsity Women's Lacrosse program at Stanford in 1994. In addition to her coaching duties at Stanford, Kay taught physical education classes in weight training, tennis and lacrosse. Her Stanford lacrosse team won the Western Women's Lacrosse League title in 1995.
IIn 1997, Kay was hired as the head coach of the women's ice hockey team at Amherst College. She also served as an assistant coach for the Amherst women's lacrosse and golf teams. Kay's tenure as an assistant coach of the Amherst lacrosse team included an NCAA national championship runner-up finish in 1999. In addition, she was an assistant coach for the women's golf team when they finished third in the nation in the NCAA Championships in 2002.
After leaving Amherst College in 2004, Kay became a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise. Kay loves to work with each client by addressing nutrition, exercise habits, and the obstacles that prevent people from achieving their wellness goals. She provides compassion, understanding and motivation to each client.
